Program Description

IP Issues in JapanJapan and the United States enjoy a close relationship, and nowhere is the business aspect of that relationship clearer than in Southern California. The Los Angeles area is home to the U.S. headquarters for more than a thousand Japanese companies, many of them dependent on the quality and value of their intellectual property. With the goal of further educating the lawyers and legal managers who guide these companies and their U.S. counterparts through complex intellectual property issues, the Daiichi Tokyo Bar Association and the International Law Section for the State Bar of California have come together to organize a unique joint education program. The program will feature highly respected law firm, university, company, and government representatives. It is sure to be an enlivening presentation and discussion for anyone with an interest in the international aspects of intellectual property, especially the strong intellectual property connection between California and Japan.

The joint education program is part of an ongoing series of joint initiatives between the Daiichi Tokyo Bar Association and the International Law Section for the State Bar of California. The two groups entered into a friendship agreement in 2007. Since that agreement was signed, they have worked on several projects together, in California and Japan, with the aim of providing information and education opportunities and supporting international cooperation on legal issues affecting their members.
